Dwarf Fiddle Leaf Fig ‘Ficus Lyrata Bambino’ 14-19cm

Price range: R155.00 through R290.00

Petite Lyrical Foliage Charm, the Compact Ficus Lyrata Bambino

Scientific Name: Ficus lyrata ‘Bambino’
Common Names / Known As: Dwarf Fiddle Leaf Fig, Bambino Fiddle Leaf Fig

Overview: This charming dwarf cultivar features smaller, thicker, violin-shaped leaves with a glossy texture and lighter veining, offering a more compact twist on the classic fiddle leaf’s dramatic appeal. Originating from the tropical rainforests of West Africa, it excels as an indoor plant in South African settings, bringing lush greenery to cosy spaces without overwhelming them. Its bushy, upright growth makes it a versatile choice for enhancing modern homes or offices with subtle exotic elegance.

Quirky Fact / Common Use: The Bambino’s leaves are sturdier and more rounded than its taller sibling, allowing it to branch out more readily when pruned, creating a fuller, shrub-like form that’s easier to shape into a mini indoor tree.

Ideal For:

  • Compact apartments, offices, or homes in well-lit lounges and bedrooms, ideal for limited spaces where its petite size adds decor appeal without dominating the room.
  • Beginner to intermediate plant enthusiasts who appreciate low-fuss care, as it’s less demanding than the standard variety—makes a delightful gift for urban dwellers seeking stylish greenery.
  • A must-have for improving indoor air quality by filtering toxins, boosting oxygen, and introducing textured contrast to shelf displays or grouped arrangements.
  • Its bold yet compact foliage grows to between 90 cm and 180 cm tall, perfect for table tops, counter tops, office desks, or as a floor-standing accent in smaller corners.

🌿 Care: Overwatering often causes root rot and leaf drop in this compact fig—check the top 5 cm of soil for dryness before watering to prevent sogginess. Brown leaf edges from dry air can be fixed by misting weekly or placing on a humidity tray with pebbles and water, aiming for 50-60% humidity in drier South African interiors. Spots or marks from pests like scale can be treated by wiping leaves with diluted neem oil and ensuring good air circulation to keep it thriving.

☀️ Light: Prefers bright, indirect light for 6-8 hours a day—place 1-2 metres from a window with light curtains to avoid leaf burn from direct sun.

💧 Watering: Water thoroughly when the top 5 cm of soil dries out, about every 7-10 days in summer, extending to 14 days in winter to steer clear of overwatering pitfalls.

🌡️ Temperature: Thrives in 18-24°C, suiting most South African home environments, but shield from cold draughts or drops below 15°C in winter-prone areas like the Highveld.

🌱 Feeding: Apply a balanced, diluted liquid fertiliser (e.g., 7:1:2) every 2-4 weeks from spring (September) through autumn (March) to support healthy growth. Use slow-release fertiliser (e.g., 5:1:4) granules at the start of the growing season for ongoing nutrition, halting in winter to prevent salt accumulation.

🐶 Pet Friendly? ❌ Toxic to cats and dogs (leading to oral irritation and vomiting if chewed), may leach irritants into fish tanks or ponds, and can cause mild skin rashes in humans or children from sap contact.

What would you like to see:

To ensure fresh and healthy plants we follow a strict weekly shipping schedule:

Mondays: We prepare plants for shipping! This means wrapping the soil, adding plant sleeves, and one last pre-travel watering.
Tuesdays: We wake up bright and early to get all plants carefully packaged for shipping in the morning, in the afternoon we hand over plants with the longest travel ahead of them to our courier partners (this means Eastern, Western and Northern Cape)
Wednesdays: If there are any plants that did not fit in the Tuesday truck, they travel in the second batch on a Wednesday.
Thursdays and Fridays: No plants are shipped, we carefully monitor all the travelling plant babies to ensure they arrive safely at their new homes !

Why do we do this?

Our shipping schedule works this way to ensure that your plants are less likely to spend a weekend in the courier depot ! Our shipping schedule is designed this way to ensure that your plants are fresh and healthy, for this same reason we do not like keeping stock for extended periods of time which means that stock received on Thursdays and Fridays will only be shipped the following week.
