Overview: The Gold Crest (Cupressus macrocarpa ‘Goldcrest’) is a striking evergreen known for its vibrant golden-green foliage and refreshing lemon scent released when touched. Naturally upright with a refined conical shape, this plant brings structure, colour, and a clean, modern aesthetic to indoor and outdoor spaces. Native to coastal California, the Gold Crest adapts beautifully to South African homes—thriving especially well in bright, sunny areas. Its fine, feathery needles and cheerful glow make it a popular choice for décor, office styling, balcony pots, and festive displays.

Quirky Fact / Common Use: When lightly brushed, the Gold Crest releases a gentle lemon fragrance, making it a favourite for sensory plant lovers and indoor freshness.

Ideal For:
• Entrances, patios, sunny offices, bright living rooms, and modern indoor plant styling
• Homeowners wanting a bold vertical accent plant without complicated care
• Festive décor during the holidays thanks to its mini-tree appearance
• Outdoor containers, balcony pots, and sunny window corners needing height and structure

🌱 Tips: Most problems arise from underwatering or very dry soil—browning tips indicate the plant is too dry or exposed to harsh heat. Keep soil evenly moist but never soggy. Trim lightly if the shape becomes uneven. Yellowing or dull foliage may indicate low light.

🌤️ Light: Bright light to full sun is ideal. Indoors, place near the brightest window for best colour. Outdoors, protect from intense late-afternoon heat in midsummer.

💧 Watering: Keep soil slightly moist. Water when the top 2–4 cm feels dry. Do not let the root ball dry out completely.

🌡️ Temperature: Thrives in 15°C – 26°C. Protect from frost and avoid placing next to heaters, as dry hot air can brown the foliage.

🍃 Feeding: Use Slow Release Fertilizer or feed monthly in spring and summer with a balanced Liquid Fertilizer (e.g., 5:1:4). Reduce feeding during cooler months.

🐾 Pet Friendly? ❌ NO – May be toxic if leaves are ingested by pets or children.

What would you like to see:

To ensure fresh and healthy plants we follow a strict weekly shipping schedule:

Mondays: We prepare plants for shipping! This means wrapping the soil, adding plant sleeves, and one last pre-travel watering.
Tuesdays: We wake up bright and early to get all plants carefully packaged for shipping in the morning, in the afternoon we hand over plants with the longest travel ahead of them to our courier partners (this means Eastern, Western and Northern Cape)
Wednesdays: If there are any plants that did not fit in the Tuesday truck, they travel in the second batch on a Wednesday.
Thursdays and Fridays: No plants are shipped, we carefully monitor all the travelling plant babies to ensure they arrive safely at their new homes !

Why do we do this?

Our shipping schedule works this way to ensure that your plants are less likely to spend a weekend in the courier depot ! Our shipping schedule is designed this way to ensure that your plants are fresh and healthy, for this same reason we do not like keeping stock for extended periods of time which means that stock received on Thursdays and Fridays will only be shipped the following week.
