Sultry Tropical Superstar – Aglaonema ‘Pattaya Beauty’

Scientific Name: Aglaonema hybrid ‘Pattaya Beauty’
Family: Araceae Genus: Aglaonema (Thai hybrid)
Common Names / Known As: Pattaya Beauty Chinese Evergreen, Aglaonema Pattaya, Thai Beauty, Cream-Green Evergreen

Overview: This Thai-bred stunner flaunts long, narrow leaves in creamy white centres that fade into soft grey-green and dark green edges – pure tropical elegance. The stems often blush pinkish-red, adding extra Insta-drama. Ultra tough and shade-loving, it’s the go-to glamour plant for dark Durban flats, air-conditioned Sandton offices, or humid Cape Town winters where everything else battles.

Quirky Fact / Common Use: In Thailand they call it the “millionaire plant” because it keeps looking expensive even when you treat it like a R50 special from the robot!

Available Sizes: 15cm, 19cm, 30cm Nursery Pots

Ideal For:

  • 🌿 Low-light queens in shady Gauteng apartments, north-facing Cape Town lounges, or steamy KZN bathrooms – glows where Monsteras sulk.
  • 🎁 Jaw-dropping gift for new homes, promotions or “you deserve something pretty” moments.
  • 🌱 Perfect for beginners and serial neglectors – survives holidays, load-shedding and black thumbs with style.
  • ✨ A must-have because it’s NASA-level air purifying, adds soft pastel texture, and stays perfectly compact forever.
  • 🌱 Its slender, creamy foliage grows 40-80 cm tall, ideal for side tables, office desks, bathroom vanities, or as a classy floor plant in dim corners.

(Received plants may differ slightly from images displayed. Unless otherwise specified, all Plants come in black nursery pots)

Tips and tricks: 🌱 Yellow leaves = overwatering death sentence – let the top 5-7 cm dry out completely (finger test every time). Brown tips = dry air (hello Joburg winter!) – mist daily or pop on a pebble tray. Fading colour or leggy stems = too dark, move one metre closer to a window. Mealybugs love the cream parts – dab with cotton bud + surgical spirits weekly until gone. Wipe dust off leaves monthly with a damp cloth for maximum glamour and breathing power.

Light: ☀️ Low to medium indirect light is its happy place – thrives 2-3 m from a window or under fluorescent lights all day.

Watering: 💧 Water thoroughly only when the top 5-7 cm is bone dry – every 2-3 weeks in winter, weekly in hot humid summers. Always empty the saucer.

Temperature: 🌡️ Ideal 18-29°C – loves normal SA homes; hates anything below 15°C (cold Cape southerlies blacken leaves overnight).

Feeding: 🌿 Use Slow Release Fertilizer once in spring and once in late summer – that’s it. Or apply half-strength Liquid Fertilizer (5:1:4) monthly September to March only.

Pet Friendly?NO – Toxic to cats, dogs & kids (calcium oxalate crystals irritate mouth); place on high shelves away from naughty pets and toddlers.

What would you like to see:

To ensure fresh and healthy plants we follow a strict weekly shipping schedule:

Mondays: We prepare plants for shipping! This means wrapping the soil, adding plant sleeves, and one last pre-travel watering.
Tuesdays: We wake up bright and early to get all plants carefully packaged for shipping in the morning, in the afternoon we hand over plants with the longest travel ahead of them to our courier partners (this means Eastern, Western and Northern Cape)
Wednesdays: If there are any plants that did not fit in the Tuesday truck, they travel in the second batch on a Wednesday.
Thursdays and Fridays: No plants are shipped, we carefully monitor all the travelling plant babies to ensure they arrive safely at their new homes !

Why do we do this?

Our shipping schedule works this way to ensure that your plants are less likely to spend a weekend in the courier depot ! Our shipping schedule is designed this way to ensure that your plants are fresh and healthy, for this same reason we do not like keeping stock for extended periods of time which means that stock received on Thursdays and Fridays will only be shipped the following week.
