Price range: R120.00 through R130.00

Cascading Green Jewels and Unforgettable Trailing Wonder

Scientific Name: Senecio rowleyanus; Family: Asteraceae; Genus: Senecio; Species: rowleyanus
Common Names / Known As: String of Pearls, Rosary Plant, Bead Plant, String of Beads

Overview: The String of Pearls is an indoor showstopper with its long, trailing vines dotted with perfectly round, bead-like leaves — like a necklace made by nature! 💎 Native to southwest Africa, this succulent beauty loves bright light and dry soil. Its cascading strands can spill dramatically over shelves or hanging baskets, making it a dream plant for modern, minimalist, or boho spaces.

Quirky Fact / Common Use: Each “pearl” is actually a clever little water-storage bead! 💧 These spherical leaves help the plant survive in dry conditions. And here’s the fun part — when it flowers, it gives off a light, cinnamon-like scent. 🌸

Ideal For: 🏡 Apartments, sunny kitchens, living rooms, and home offices 🌿 Great for hanging baskets, macramé planters, and floating shelves 💚 Ideal for plant lovers who appreciate sculptural, low-water greenery ✨ Perfect as a gift or accent piece in minimalist and modern décor 🌱 Its trailing vines can grow up to 90 cm–1.2 m, making it a statement piece anywhere you place it

Received plants may differ slightly from images displayed. Unless otherwise specified, all plants come in black nursery pots.

🌿 Care: The String of Pearls is easy-going — as long as you don’t love it too much! 😅 Overwatering is the biggest mistake; always let the soil dry completely before watering again. If pearls start to shrivel, they’re thirsty. Keep the vines out of high-traffic areas — they’re delicate and can snap easily.
☀️ Light: Loves bright, indirect light and can handle a few hours of gentle sun. Great near bright windows or skylights. Too little light = stretched, sparse strands. Too much direct sun = scorched pearls.
💧 Watering: Water sparingly — roughly every 2–3 weeks in summer and once a month in winter. Use a pot with drainage holes to avoid soggy roots.
🌡️ Temperature: Best in 18–26°C, perfect for most South African homes. Avoid frost or cold draughts; this little gem is happiest in warm, dry spaces.
🌱 Feeding: Apply a diluted liquid fertiliser (e.g., 5:1:4) once a month during spring and summer. Alternatively, use a slow-release fertiliser at the start of spring for a low-maintenance boost. Pause feeding in winter.
🐾 Pet Friendly? ❌ No. The String of Pearls is toxic if ingested by cats, dogs, or humans. Keep it out of reach of curious pets and little hands — it’s best admired from a distance. 🐶🚫

What would you like to see:

To ensure fresh and healthy plants we follow a strict weekly shipping schedule:

Mondays: We prepare plants for shipping! This means wrapping the soil, adding plant sleeves, and one last pre-travel watering.
Tuesdays: We wake up bright and early to get all plants carefully packaged for shipping in the morning, in the afternoon we hand over plants with the longest travel ahead of them to our courier partners (this means Eastern, Western and Northern Cape)
Wednesdays: If there are any plants that did not fit in the Tuesday truck, they travel in the second batch on a Wednesday.
Thursdays and Fridays: No plants are shipped, we carefully monitor all the travelling plant babies to ensure they arrive safely at their new homes !

Why do we do this?

Our shipping schedule works this way to ensure that your plants are less likely to spend a weekend in the courier depot ! Our shipping schedule is designed this way to ensure that your plants are fresh and healthy, for this same reason we do not like keeping stock for extended periods of time which means that stock received on Thursdays and Fridays will only be shipped the following week.
