Pink Tropical Trailblazer

Scientific Name: Syngonium podophyllum ‘Neon Robusta’
Common Names / Known As: Pink arrowhead vine, Neon robusta syngonium, pink syngonium, rosy arrowhead plant

Overview: Syngonium podophyllum ‘Neon Robusta’ mesmerises with its glossy, arrowhead-shaped leaves in vibrant neon pink hues, especially on juveniles, maturing to more lobed forms. This cultivated tropical vine originates from Central and South American rainforests (Mexico to Brazil). It thrives indoors in South Africa as a trailing or climbing plant, bringing bold colour and easy elegance to compact spaces.

Quirky Fact / Common Use: Lab-bred for its iridescent pink glow, ‘Neon Robusta’ leaves evolve from heart-shaped juveniles to fan-like adults—a shape-shifting wonder! In South African homes, it’s a social media star for adding Barbie-pink vibes to hanging displays.

Ideal For:

  • Apartments, offices, or homes, especially in lounges, bedrooms, or humid bathrooms for its trailing decor appeal and limited-space charm.
  • Beginner to intermediate plant enthusiasts due to its forgiving, moderate maintenance needs.
  • A must-have for adding texture and contrast to mixed plant arrangements or terrariums, purifying indoor air, and infusing joyful pink energy.
  • Its elegant, glossy foliage grows to 30–120 cm (trailing or climbing) and is ideal for shelves, hanging baskets, or countertops.

Available: 15cm Pot

🌱 Care: Syngonium Neon Robusta is a colourful climber but hates soggy roots—overwatering causes yellow leaves and root rot, so use well-draining soil and let the top dry before watering. Brown leaf edges, common in SA’s dry winters, signal low humidity; mist regularly or use a pebble tray to keep its pink vibrant. Direct sun scorches its delicate foliage, fading the neon tones, so opt for filtered light. Trim leggy stems to encourage bushiness, and wipe leaves to remove dust and deter pests like spider mites.

🌞 Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light, like a lounge or office 1–2 m from a window with sheer curtains to soften SA’s intense sun. Tolerates medium light but avoid low light to prevent leggy growth and pink fade. A steamy bathroom with filtered rays is perfect for its tropical pink pop.

💧 Watering: Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry, roughly every 7–10 days in SA’s warm spring/summer, less in winter; use rainwater to avoid mineral buildup. Overwatering is the main pitfall—soggy soil leads to rot, so ensure pots drain well and empty saucers.

🌡️ Temperature: Prefers 15–26°C, ideal for South African homes, but protect from cold drafts below 10°C in winter or heat spikes above 30°C in summer.

🍽️ Feeding: Apply a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer like Talborne Nourish 7:1:2 (5 ml per litre) every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer to enhance its pink foliage. Reduce to every 8 weeks in autumn and winter when growth slows in SA’s cooler months. Slow-release granules can be used sparingly at planting to support steady vining.

🐾 Pet Friendly? ❌: No—toxic to cats, dogs, aquatic life in fishtanks or ponds, and humans/children if ingested, causing oral irritation from calcium oxalate crystals; keep out of reach.

What would you like to see:

To ensure fresh and healthy plants we follow a strict weekly shipping schedule:

Mondays: We prepare plants for shipping! This means wrapping the soil, adding plant sleeves, and one last pre-travel watering.
Tuesdays: We wake up bright and early to get all plants carefully packaged for shipping in the morning, in the afternoon we hand over plants with the longest travel ahead of them to our courier partners (this means Eastern, Western and Northern Cape)
Wednesdays: If there are any plants that did not fit in the Tuesday truck, they travel in the second batch on a Wednesday.
Thursdays and Fridays: No plants are shipped, we carefully monitor all the travelling plant babies to ensure they arrive safely at their new homes !

Why do we do this?

Our shipping schedule works this way to ensure that your plants are less likely to spend a weekend in the courier depot ! Our shipping schedule is designed this way to ensure that your plants are fresh and healthy, for this same reason we do not like keeping stock for extended periods of time which means that stock received on Thursdays and Fridays will only be shipped the following week.
