Enchanting Shimmering Foliage, Diamond Lime House Plant

Scientific Name: Scindapsus pictus
Common Names / Known As: Diamond Lime, Satin Pothos, Silver Pothos

Overview: This captivating vine boasts heart-shaped leaves with a velvety texture and striking silver-lime variegation that catches the light like scattered diamonds. Native to the humid forests of Southeast Asia, it thrives as an indoor plant in South African homes, adding a touch of tropical elegance to any space. Its trailing or climbing habit makes it versatile for decor, purifying the air while requiring minimal fuss.

Quirky Fact / Common Use: The leaves’ unique shimmer comes from tiny air pockets that reflect light, creating a natural sparkle—perfect for training up moss poles as living wall art or trailing from shelves to divide rooms while subtly filtering indoor pollutants.

Ideal For:

  • Perfect for apartments, offices, bathrooms, or homes with limited space, bringing vibrant decor appeal to living rooms or kitchens without overwhelming the area.
  • Great for beginner plant enthusiasts or as a thoughtful gift, thanks to its easy-care nature that forgives occasional neglect while rewarding with lush growth.
  • A must-have for its air-purifying qualities, adding texture and contrast to mixed plant arrangements or terrariums; its elegant, smooth foliage makes a subtle statement, growing to 100-300 cm in length, ideal for shelves, counter tops, office desks, or trailing from hanging baskets.

Available in: 14cm Nursery Pots

(Received plants may differ slightly from images displayed. Unless otherwise specified, all Plants come in black nursery pots)

🌿 Care: Avoid placing in direct sunlight to prevent leaf scorch—relocate to filtered light and prune damaged leaves with clean shears for fresh growth. Brown edges often indicate low humidity, so mist regularly or use a pebble tray with water to boost moisture levels. Spots or marks can signal overwatering; let soil dry between sessions and ensure good drainage to dodge root rot disasters.

☀️ Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light, such as near a window with sheer curtains or on a shelf 1-2 metres from the glass in living rooms or bedrooms.

💧 Watering: Water thoroughly when the top 2-3 cm of soil is dry, typically every 7-10 days in warmer months, reducing in cooler seasons to prevent sogginess.

🌡️ Temperature: Best in 18-24°C range, ideal for typical South African indoor homes where it handles mild coastal or inland weather fluctuations without fuss—avoid drafts below 10°C.

🌱 Feeding: Use diluted liquid fertilizer like Nourish 5:1:4 every four weeks during active growth from spring to summer, pausing in autumn and winter.

🐶 Pet Friendly? ❌ No, toxic to cats and dogs (causing irritation and vomiting if chewed); keep away from fish tanks or ponds as debris may harm aquatic life; mildly toxic to humans and children, leading to mouth discomfort if ingested.

What would you like to see:

To ensure fresh and healthy plants we follow a strict weekly shipping schedule:

Mondays: We prepare plants for shipping! This means wrapping the soil, adding plant sleeves, and one last pre-travel watering.
Tuesdays: We wake up bright and early to get all plants carefully packaged for shipping in the morning, in the afternoon we hand over plants with the longest travel ahead of them to our courier partners (this means Eastern, Western and Northern Cape)
Wednesdays: If there are any plants that did not fit in the Tuesday truck, they travel in the second batch on a Wednesday.
Thursdays and Fridays: No plants are shipped, we carefully monitor all the travelling plant babies to ensure they arrive safely at their new homes !

Why do we do this?

Our shipping schedule works this way to ensure that your plants are less likely to spend a weekend in the courier depot ! Our shipping schedule is designed this way to ensure that your plants are fresh and healthy, for this same reason we do not like keeping stock for extended periods of time which means that stock received on Thursdays and Fridays will only be shipped the following week.
