Overview: The Gymnocalycium Ferox is a striking, solitary cactus with a dark green, globular stem adorned with robust, curving spines. Native to the arid regions of Cordoba and La Rioja, Argentina, this compact cactus is a bold addition to indoor or outdoor succulent collections.
Quirky Fact / Common Use: Its name “ferox,” meaning “fierce” in Latin, reflects its formidable spines, which give it a rugged, warrior-like charm, making it a favourite among cactus collectors.

Ideal For:

Care Tips

Light: Thrives in full sun but can tolerate bright, indirect light indoors. A south-facing windowsill is ideal.
Watering: Water sparingly, allowing the top 2–3 cm of soil to dry out completely between waterings, roughly every 2–3 weeks in summer and less in winter.
Temperature: Prefers 18–30°C, common in South African climates. Hardy to -5°C for short periods if kept dry.
Feeding: Use a slow-release fertiliser formulated for cacti (e.g., 5:1:4) once in spring. Avoid over-fertilising to prevent soft growth.
Pet Friendly? ✅ Non-toxic to cats, dogs, and children, but handle with care due to sharp spines.
Care: Overwatering is a common error; ensure well-draining soil and pots with drainage holes to prevent rot. Brown spots or soft stems may indicate excess moisture—reduce watering and improve ventilation. Dust off spines gently with a soft brush to maintain its fierce look.

What would you like to see:

To ensure fresh and healthy plants we follow a strict weekly shipping schedule: 

Mondays: We prepare plants for shipping! This means wrapping the soil, adding plant sleeves, and one last pre-travel watering. 
Tuesdays: We wake up bright and early to get all plants carefully packaged for shipping in the morning, in the afternoon we hand over plants with the longest travel ahead of them to our courier partners (this means Eastern, Western and Northern Cape)
Wednesdays: If there are any plants that did not fit in the Tuesday truck, they travel in the second batch on a Wednesday. 
Thursdays and Fridays: No plants are shipped, we carefully monitor all the travelling plant babies to ensure they arrive safely at their new homes ! 

Why do we do this? 

Our shipping schedule works this way to ensure that your plants are less likely to spend a weekend in the courier depot ! Our shipping schedule is designed this way to ensure that your plants are fresh and healthy, for this same reason we do not like keeping stock for extended periods of time which means that stock received on Thursdays and Fridays will only be shipped the following week.
