Juicy Succulent Air-Purifying Delight

Scientific Name: Peperomia argyreia
Common Names / Known As: Watermelon Peperomia, Watermelon Begonia, Silver Ripple Peperomia

Overview: This juicy indoor stunner flaunts plump, oval leaves with striking dark green stripes on silvery-green backgrounds, mimicking watermelon rind that sparkles like spring gems. Native to the steamy rainforests of Ecuador and Peru, it thrives as a compact succulent beauty in South African homes. Its rosette form brings playful, fruity vibes to table tops or shelves, perfect for low-maintenance October greenery.

Quirky Fact / Common Use: In SA Sotho traditions, watermelon peperomia is placed on kitchen counters during spring jolls to “sweeten” braai feasts—its stripes symbolise juicy watermelon slices for bountiful harvests and epic summer vibes!

Available in: 12cm Nursery Pot

Ideal For:

  • Cosy flats, small townhouses, open-plan offices, bathrooms & limited-space braais in Joburg or Cape Town homes
  • Beginner plant lovers or as a thoughtful gift—super easy-going with zero drama!
  • A must-have for air-purifying oxygen boost, adding succulent texture & striped contrast to terrarium mixes or mixed planters. It’s boldly elegant foliage makes a fun statement and grows to 15-30cm—ideal for table tops, counter tops, office desks or school counters.

Received plants may differ slightly from images displayed. Unless otherwise specified, all Plants come in black nursery pots

🌿 Care: Overwatering mushes leaves like soggy watermelon—let top 3-5cm dry out completely to dodge root rot! Trim brown tips with clean scissors for plump perfection. For dusty stripes from dry air, wipe leaves monthly with a damp cloth. Pro tip: They’re succulent champs—err on dry side for unbeatable juicy vibes!

☀️ Light: Indirect bright light—loves east-facing windows or near sheer curtains; tolerates low light but stripes fade in dark corners like bland boerewors!

💧 Watering: Water when top 3-5cm soil is dry (every 10-14 days); use room-temp water & ensure excellent drainage—practically bulletproof!

🌡️ Temperature: 18-27°C—perfect for toasty SA springs & cosy winter homes; keep away from icy draughts or hot braai vents below 15°C.

🍽️ Feeding: Use Slow Release Fertilizer pellets every 6 months year-round, or Apply a balanced, diluted Liquid Fertilizer (e.g., 5:1:4) every 8 weeks in spring & summer; skip in winter.

Pet Friendly?Yes—totally safe for cats, dogs, kids & humans; fine for non-aquatic setups, but not for live fish tanks or ponds. 🐶🐱

What would you like to see:

To ensure fresh and healthy plants we follow a strict weekly shipping schedule:

Mondays: We prepare plants for shipping! This means wrapping the soil, adding plant sleeves, and one last pre-travel watering.
Tuesdays: We wake up bright and early to get all plants carefully packaged for shipping in the morning, in the afternoon we hand over plants with the longest travel ahead of them to our courier partners (this means Eastern, Western and Northern Cape)
Wednesdays: If there are any plants that did not fit in the Tuesday truck, they travel in the second batch on a Wednesday.
Thursdays and Fridays: No plants are shipped, we carefully monitor all the travelling plant babies to ensure they arrive safely at their new homes !

Why do we do this?

Our shipping schedule works this way to ensure that your plants are less likely to spend a weekend in the courier depot ! Our shipping schedule is designed this way to ensure that your plants are fresh and healthy, for this same reason we do not like keeping stock for extended periods of time which means that stock received on Thursdays and Fridays will only be shipped the following week.
